KUCHING, Nov 18: Tatau is set to benefit from the economic spillover in Bintulu with a second wave of development planned for the downstream oil and gas (O&G) industry in Tanjung Kidurong.

Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said currently, a methanol plant belonging to Sarawak is being built in Tanjung Kidurong, with a second plant likely to follow.

“In addition, Petronas and Shell will also set up a sour gas processing plant at Tanjung Kidurong,” said Abang Johari, whose text speech was read by Kakus assemblyman Datuk John Sikie Tayai when representing him during the ‘Sarawakku Sayang Jaga Sarawak, Intu Sarawak’ programme at the Tatau Sports Hall today.

Abang Johari added apart from that, South Korea and Japan have committed to building a plant to produce hydrogen gas that those countries will repurchase.

“I am confident that if all these projects have been implemented, the people in Tatau will also benefit from the spillover effects of these projects,” he said. — DayakDaily
