KUCHING, Feb 4: Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Harry Jinep has proposed that SK Segong in Singai Bau be relocated to a safer location due to frequent floods.

According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) in a report yesterday, Henry, who is also Assistant Minister of Transport II, hoped that the Ministry of Education (MOE) would consider the proposed relocation of SK Segong by building a new school.

During a working visit to the school yesterday, Henry said the purpose of the visit is to propose to the Sarawak Education Department to send the budget application to MOE to relocate SK Segong to the Manas Biridoh area near the village.

“Being one of the dilapidated schools in the Tasik Biru constituency, the reason why the school needs to be relocated is that it is often hit by flood almost every year,” he said.

Henry noted at least 12 acres of land is needed to relocate the school and other facilities such as football fields, futsal courts, and a multi-purpose hall on the communal land of this village.

He said the construction of the Jalan Apar Bypass road, which is currently being implemented, will facilitate road access to the proposed new school location.

“Apart from that, Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) will also connect the water supply from the main pipe, while Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) will supply the electricity to the proposed site,” he added. ― DayakDaily
