SERIAN, Oct 26: Incumbent Tarat assemblyman Dato Sri Roland Sagah is ready to contest again in the coming Sarawak election, but says the final decision rests with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Sagah, who is the caretaker Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development, said he is prepared to return to the ground if the party leadership gives him the green light.
“If my party president says yes, then we will go and march to the ground,” he said to reporters after the symbolic handover ceremony of the Sarawak Science Kits (KITSS) and Discover PETRONAS @ School at Borneo Empurau Farm &Resort, Serian today.
Sagah said the party’s elected representatives had remained active on the ground and continued engaging with the people, rather than waiting for the election campaign period to begin.
“None of our elected representatives is off the ground. They’re always on the ground all the time,” he said.
On the possibility of new faces contesting, he acknowledged that others might also seek to stand, saying this was part of the democratic process.
“Anybody can stand, anybody can give their opinion, but whether it’s a worthwhile opinion or not is up to the people to judge,” he said. — DayakDaily
