KUCHING, March 3: The Tanjung Manis Halal Hub in Sarawak has recorded investments totaling RM18 million, comprising one foreign company and two local companies, which are subsidiaries of the State government.
According to the national news agency Bernama, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) Liew Chin Tong stated that the Tanjung Manis Halal Hub has held HALMAS-status as a Halal Industrial Park since 2010, with a total available land area of 4,040.38 hectares for investment-related activities.
“Out of this total, 197.16 hectares, or 4.9 per cent, have been developed for basic infrastructure facilities, agricultural activities such as pineapple cultivation, and aquaculture activities, specifically shrimp farming,” he said during a Q&A session in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He was responding to a question from Yusuf Abd Wahab (Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)-Tanjong Manis), who inquired about the ministry’s plans to assist the Sarawak government in promoting the Tanjung Manis Halal Hub internationally.
Additionally, Liew revealed that 841.18 hectares, or 15.3 percent of the total land area of HALMAS-status Halal Industrial Parks nationwide, have recorded cumulative investments of RM16.75 billion from 2012 to 2024. — DayakDaily
