BINTULU, Jan 15: Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming has called on the urgent need for a long-term solution to address the recurring high tide phenomenon affecting several areas in Bintulu.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), he said although the situation is still under control, this phenomenon demands serious attention.
“I hope the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) can find a solution as soon as possible, especially to safeguard residents living in low-lying and high-risk areas,” he said when visiting Good Park and several affected villages recently.
Pang also noted that the high tide phenomenon is expected to recur next week, urging the Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) to enhance preparedness, monitoring, and assistance efforts.
“We greatly appreciate the efforts of various parties in providing aid during this incident. However, a long-term solution remains a priority to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents,” he added.
The high tide has resulted in water levels rising between one to two feet in some areas, submerging roads and affecting a few houses.
Residents in low-lying areas are advised to remain vigilant and contact the authorities if they need assistance.
