KUCHING, Oct 7: Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang hopes to see future national budgets to also include the Dayak communities in Sarawak.
He said Budget 2023 that was proposed by the Federal government today covered the interests of the indigenous people in Peninsular Malaysia as well as the Chinese and Indian communities, but not the Dayak in Sarawak.
“The indigenous people (‘orang asli’) in Malaya were allocated some budget. The Chinese and Indian communities were also allocated some funding.
“I hope to see, next time, a similar allocation for the Dayak community to be included in the national budget,” he said in a statement today.
Overall, Gira said, Budget 2023 is inclusive and inclined towards the people’s welfare.
He, however, wishes to see more funding set aside for Sarawak since Sarawak has been the main contributor of revenue in terms of oil and gas.
Budget 2023 was tabled by Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz in Dewan Rakyat earlier today. — DayakDaily
