KUCHING, April 5: The RM1.4 million Taman Desa Wira road junction upgrading project and improvement works has reached 80 per cent completion and is expected to be completed by next month.
This was said by Deputy Premier of Sarawak Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian when he recently visited the site of the project as part of his work visit to review the progress of several development projects around the Batu Kawah area.
According to a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Dr Sim was recently briefed by the Public Works Department (JKR) Kuching Division on the project.
He added that the main works had been completed, and JKR would carry out the relocation of lamp posts and underground cables in the area.
Once completed, it would help to facilitate traffic in the area.
Dr Sim, who is Batu Kawah assemblyman, also reviewed the implementation status of the RM20 million drainage system project in Taman Desa Wira, which was progressing well.
“Although there have been delays due to Covid-19, construction work is now progressing with more tender openings expected in the future,” he said.
He also visited the Kampung Rantau Panjang riverbank project under Phase 5 of the Batu Kawa Waterfront development project.
“The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) has submitted a contract worth RM11.3 million for this project to the new contractor selected through an open tender process,” he said via a Facebook post.
The Deputy Premier explained that this is the second contractor after the services of the previous contractor were cancelled for failing to start construction work a year after being awarded the project contract.
