LIMBANG, April 10: Sarawak must “take care of its own house” to safeguard political stability and resist divisive external influences, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said in a firm call for unity.
He stressed that Sarawak’s strength lies in its unity and distinctive approach to governance.
“I believe Sarawak can become a model for others. Alhamdulillah, our politics is stable.
“Don’t divide our politics. Don’t follow others. We must take care of our own house,” he said during the Leaders and Community Leaders gathering at the Limbang Civic Centre, broadcast live via TVS tonight.
Abang Johari said the State’s stable political environment has enabled consistent development, including rising revenues and major investments in infrastructure, education and digital systems.
He added that Sarawak’s growing influence at the national level is also anchored on this stability, pointing to the role of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof.
“When our house is strong, we can contribute to the nation. That is why I told the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim), if Sarawak is strong, Malaysia is strong,” he said.
The Premier also dismissed claims that Sarawak is a “kingmaker”, instead emphasising sincerity in leadership.
“We are not kingmakers. We are sincere. Our struggle is sincere, and that is why people trust us,” he added.
He also highlighted Sarawak’s governance model, which leverages technology, including the use of its own e-wallet platform to deliver assistance efficiently to the rakyat.
“The World Bank has recognised Sarawak as a high-income region, alongside Selangor and Penang. In the past, we were far behind. Today, we are on par with them.
“Our future is even brighter with new and advanced technologies, along with a new economy based on digital capabilities and renewable resources,” he added.
