Taib’s son Sulaiman pays last respects to Dr Chan’s mother

MIRI, May 9: Former Deputy Tourism Minister Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib was among many people who turned up today to pay their last respects to the late Leong Lai Wah, mother of former Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam.

Leong died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday (May 7) at her residence in Tanjong Lobang. She was 104.


Sulaiman is Dr Chan’s former son-in-law and a son of Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud. He served as a Deputy Tourism Minister from April 10 to Dec 14, 2009, during the reign of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Other dignitaries present today included Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, former SUPP president Tan Sri Peter Chin, SUPP secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting, Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin and Miri mayor Adam Yii.

The cortege was scheduled to leave for Riam Chinese Cemetery at 1pm. — DayakDaily
