Taib continues his service as Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri

Yang di-Pertuan Agong presents the instrument of appointment to Taib at Istana Negara today.

KUCHING, Feb 28: Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud today received his instrument of appointment to continue his service for two years from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara.

This is Taib’s third term as the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, and Sarawak Assistant Minister for Modernisation of Agriculture and Regional Development I Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail were among those present to witness the handing over ceremony.


Taib is expected to return to Kuching tomorrow morning.

Later in the afternoon, he will take his oath of office during the swearing-in ceremony at the State Legislative Assembly.

On March 1, 2014, Taib was sworn in as the seventh Sarawak Yang Dipertua Negeri after stepping down as Sarawak Chief Minister on Feb 28, 2014.

Abdul Taib was the fourth chief minister of Sarawak and held the post for 33 years since March 26, 1981, after he succeeded his uncle Tun Abdul Rahman Ya’kub. ― DayakDaily
