MIRI, Dec 17: Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) recorded an increase in the zakat collection this year, compared to RM86 million in 2018.
“For this year (2019) until November we have collected a total RM92.1 million, and the amount is expected to increase to RM95 million by the end of this year,” said TBS general manager Datu Abang Mohamad Shibli Abang Nohamad Nailie on Tuesday.
He added that the amount has exceeded their target of RM85 million.
“In 2018 TBS collected a total RM86 million. This year, we surpassed our target and expect it to increase by the end of this year (December 2019),” he said.
Abang Mohamad Shibli was met after presenting zakat assistance amounting to
RM50,522.00 to 30 poor and needy recipients in Miri.
He added that the zakat distribution statewide this year up until November was RM63.4 million.
In 2018, the amount of zakat distributed was RM64.03 million. —DayakDaily
