Swollen river turns recreational outing into rescue op in Kg Segong

KUCHING, Nov 25: A group of 11, including a woman, was rescued from a resort after being stuck on the other side of a swift river at Kampung Segong in Bau, yesterday.

State Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre said that it received an emergency call at 5.52pm and a team of 10 firefighters led by PKPGB Tawang Lingem was deployed to the location.

“Rescue ropes were utilised in order to rescue the victims from the swift flow of the river which was 5 feet deep and 50 feet wide,” the statement revealed.


All 11 victim were safely rescued and were brought to the staging area which is about 30 minutes from the location.

It is understood that the group was at a nearby resort for recreational activities when the incident occured.

The rescue operation ended safely at 9.45pm. — DayakDaily
