KUCHING, May 27: The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) under the Sarawak government has been allocated RM54.1 million this year for the implementation of 16 physical projects comprising 1,000 affordable housing units across the State.
Sarawak Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian revealed this during his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting here today.
Of the 16 projects, three have been completed: 60 Rumah Mampu Milik (RMM) units in Darul Hana, Kuching; and two Rumah SPEKTRA Permata (RSP) projects comprising 30 units each at Skim Pembesaran Kampung (SPK) Susur Jambu Phase 2 in Sarikei and SPK Hilir Dalat in Mukah.
“The remaining 11 projects are currently ongoing while two others are still at the planning stage,” he said.
Dr Sim, who is also Batu Kawah assemblyman, added that eight housing-related initiatives have also been approved under the Sarawak government’s Projek Rakyat programme.
“Of these, two projects have been completed involving infrastructure upgrades at SPK Tian and SPK Igan, while four projects are ongoing.
“These include the construction of 62 RSP units at SPK Santubong, 50 RSP units each at SPK Hulu Kabong and SPK Gedong, and earthworks for SPS Banting Phase 4 in Lawas.
“The remaining two projects are currently in the planning stage,” he said.
Touching on the Sarawak Rental Assistance Scheme (SRAS), Dr Sim said that to date, a total of 5,652 applications have been approved, involving a locked amount of RM28.4 million, which represents an increase of 1,096 applications since the end of 2024. — DayakDaily
