KUCHING, Oct 27: The Sarawak government welcomes the appointment of the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the people of Sarawak are loyal to the King, and thus, they welcome Sultan Ibrahim’s appointment as their next Agong.

Asked whether the recently-concluded Kembara Kenali Borneo event, which saw the incumbent Agong, Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and his royal family on a road trip to mingle with the locals in Borneo, would be organised again exclusively for the new Agong, Abang Johari humbly leaves the decision to him.

“We will leave the decision to our new Agong. We welcome him as our King to explore Sarawak,” he told reporters after attending a formal function held today at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

Earlier today, Istana Negara released a statement announcing that Sultan Ibrahim will be installed as the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong for a five-year term, effective Jan 31, 2024. — DayakDaily
