KUCHING, Dec 23: Sarawak wants a part in a project by foreign companies, TG2 and Idemitsu Corporation, to manufacture black pellets for green fuel.
Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan has made clear to potential investors that Sarawak has an abundance of empty fruit bunches (EFB) available for conversion to TG2 black pellets.
He thus advised the company to work together with Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) to tap the potential of using EFB for black pellet production.
This took place during Awang Tengah’s meeting with TG2/Wilhelmina Energy chief operating officer David Hiel during his work visit to Tokyo, Japan, yesterday.
On the same day, Awang Tengah, who is also Minister for International Trade and Investment (MINTRED) Sarawak and Second Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development (MUDeNR) Sarawak, met with senior management of Japan Exploration Corporation Ltd (Japex).
He said Japex is exploring carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects in Sarawak and hopes the company can also work with Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) in the project.
CCS projects are important in the decarbonisation efforts being undertaken by governments all over the world, and Sarawak has the potential to provide such investment opportunities to global investors.
Awang Tengah’s delegation included Deputy Minister of International Trade and Investment Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh; MINTRED advisor Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais; MUDeNR permanent secretary Datuk Zaidi Mahdi; Sarawak Land and Survey director Datu Abdullah Julaihi; MINTRED acting permanent secretary Dzulkornain Masron; MINTRED special function officer Datu Liaw Soon Eng; Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) chief executive officer Datu Ismawi Ismuni; STIDC general manager Datu Hashim Bojet; Petroleum Sarawak Berhad’s senior vice president of Corporate Strategy, Abang Arabi Abang Narudin; and Recoda director of Investment Lester Matthew. — DayakDaily
