KUCHING, July 23: Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak is willing to assist to make the Sarawak Open Bonsai and Suiseki Championship an international event.
Its minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said his ministry are always ready to help financially, include providing facilities and other forms of assistance.
“In term of the organising the event, it is up to the organiser to approach us,” he told reporters after officiating at the grand opening of Sarawak Open Bonsai and Suiseki Championship 2023 held at La Promenade Mall in Kota Samarahan today.
According to Abdul Karim, the bonsai competition should not be limited to local participants.
He pointed out that Sarawak also has organised an international orchid competition previously with participation from Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea and many other countries.
He said plants brought by participants were exempted from quarantine by the Department of Agriculture and other authorities because they were for the competition.
“I think if it can be done for orchids, it can also be done for bonsai,” he added.
