KUCHING, July 24: Sarawak’s commitment to accelerating the energy transition, strengthening climate resilience, and driving sustainable development was among the main focuses during an engagement session with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to formulate Malaysia’s Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) 2026–2030.
Through the consultation session held with the Ministry of Finance (MOF), the Sarawak government presented the State’s development priorities, encompassing the energy transition, sustainable infrastructure development, regional development, and regional integration, as input for the strategic framework that will guide cooperation between ADB and Malaysia over the next five years.
Representing the State government, Sarawak Climate and Energy Diplomacy Unit (SACED) director Dr Angelia Liew San Chuin delivered a presentation on the State’s priorities in these areas.
According to a statement issued today, the discussions focused on clean energy, climate resilience, sustainable infrastructure, regional connectivity, climate financing, and project preparation.

“Sarawak also highlighted its strategic role in supporting Malaysia’s sustainable development agenda through various initiatives, including the ASEAN Power Grid, the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA), the development of low-carbon industries, and regional cooperation in climate and energy,” the statement said today, according to TVS.
Liew said the engagement session served as an important platform to highlight Sarawak’s development priorities while strengthening cooperation between the Sarawak and federal governments and ADB in implementing Malaysia’s CPS 2026–2030.
She said Sarawak’s participation in the consultation process also reflected the State’s commitment to continue playing an active role in strengthening the national sustainable development agenda through strategic cooperation at the regional and international levels.
“The Country Partnership Strategy 2026–2030 will serve as ADB’s strategic framework for its cooperation with Malaysia, while guiding investment, technical assistance, and knowledge-sharing support over the next five years,” she added. — DayakDaily
