KUCHING, July 27: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should be given the space to govern the country until the end of his term, says Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

In a TVS report, he added that it was inappropriate to pressure for the removal of someone who is still carrying out their duties within their designated term.

He was commenting on the ‘Turun Anwar’ rally in the capital on Saturday (July 26), which he said does not contribute to political stability.

“When elections are approaching, all sorts of things happen. If he has been appointed and elected, let him complete his term in office.

“Just because of a small mistake, we should not immediately demand his resignation. That’s not the right approach,” he said during the official opening of Pesta Daro 2025 on Saturday.

He further noted that the current political situation has not affected Sarawak’s stability in any way, which remains on the proper development track, thanks to the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“He has increased the State’s revenue from RM6 billion to RM14 billion, with an annual budget now reaching RM15.8 billion—one of the highest in Malaysia,” he added.

With its strong financial position, Sarawak, he said, no longer needs to rely entirely on the federal government for infrastructure, such as bridges, school repairs, or providing electricity to rural areas.

“We’re going even further by planning to launch our own airline and provide free higher education funding for Sarawakian students.

“In fact, a special sovereign fund of RM8 billion has been established to secure the future of the next generation,” he explained.

He emphasised that all these achievements are the result of long-term planning and effective governance and called on the people of Sarawak to maintain stability so that today’s progress can be passed down to future generations.

“When the people are united and supportive, the spirit of leaders to develop the State will continue to burn strongly. This is the foundation of Sarawak’s success,” he said.

According to the South China Morning Post, ‘Turun Anwar’, an opposition-organised rally, targeted Anwar over unfulfilled promises and alleged authoritarian tendencies. — DayakDaily
