KUCHING, Dec 14: Sarawak’s political leadership has been very entrepreneurial since 2018, says Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Because of that, he said, Sarawak’s annual income has increased from RM6 billion a year in 2018 to RM11 billion in 2022.

“It was only a matter of five years, but because our political leadership is now, after 2018, very entrepreneurial.

“We realise that (potential) and that’s why we want to be politically independent and financially independent.

“And this is just the beginning of our financial independence,” he said when officiating at the 2022 Academy of Silent Mentor (AFSM) Tripartite Conference held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.

Looking forward, Dr Sim said Sarawak would become the richest State in Malaysia by 2030 with 70 per cent of its energy production from renewable resources.

In terms of health, he said the Sarawak government is focusing on regaining the State’s health autonomy from the Federal government.

He said all eyes would be on the Health White Paper which was tabled for the first reading by former Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin before Parliament was dissolved to make way for the Nov 19 general election. — DayakDaily
