S’wak JKR to deploy forensic team to assess Padungan shoplot wall collapse

KUCHING, April 6: The Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) will provide forensic services to the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) following a wall collapse incident at Jalan Padungan here.

In a statement, Sarawak JKR said a technical team comprising forensic engineers, structural experts, and technical investigation officers will be deployed to the site of the incident to conduct an assessment of the structures involved.

The assessment includes site analysis, structural engineering assessment, and collection of physical evidence that can contribute to determining the cause of the collapse.

“JKR’s priority is public safety, and any findings from the assessment will be channelled to MBKS for further action, including restoration recommendations, if necessary,” it said.

In addition, the department said it is always ready to offer technical assistance and professional advisory services to any government agency, local authority, and interested parties who require it.

Meanwhile, Sarawak JKR director Dr Cassidy Morris said the department will continue to play an active role in strengthening the structural safety and resilience of public infrastructure throughout the State.

“I would like to assure you that this assessment will be conducted with complete professionalism and transparency and will be based on valid technical facts.

“We must always ensure that every infrastructure developed is safe for the people and sustainable for the future,” he said in the statement. — DayakDaily
