KUCHING, Jan 20: The Sarawak government will be hosting a State-level Chinese New Year (CNY) open house this year, set for January 29 (Wednesday) from 9am to 2pm at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
The event will be graced by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, alongside Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and other members of the State cabinet.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who chaired the State-level 2025 CNY organising committee meeting earlier today, expressed that the event will be a celebration for all Sarawakians.
“The leaders will be there together with the rakyat (people) because this is a celebration for the people of Sarawak, not just an official function,” he said during a light-switching ceremony for the CNY celebration at Padungan White Cat, Jalan Padungan.
He further wished everyone well for the Year of the Snake: “May the year of the snake bring the best of health to each and every one of you, lots of happiness and prosperity for Sarawak, so that Sarawak continues to be ‘maju and makmur’ (progressive and prosperous) in our nation-building efforts.”
A formal press release with more details about the open house will be issued on Wednesday (Jan 22).
The evening also marked the illumination of the Stutong Community Market, MBKS building, and Petanak Market with festive lights, creating a vibrant atmosphere for returning families and visitors.
Also present were Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng and deputy mayor Dato Zaiedi Suhaili. — DayakDaily
