KUCHING, Aug 15: The Sarawak government is establishing a cybersecurity unit or team to address cybersecurity challenges in Sarawak.
Sarawak Economic Planning Unit (EPU) said the unit will focus on governance and management, policies and regulations, compliance and enforcement, research and capacity development, as well as global collaboration.
“Cybersecurity is a national matter and the federal government has established the Cyber Security Framework to address cybercrime.
“To address cybersecurity challenges in Sarawak, the Sarawak government is establishing the Cybersecurity Unit/ Team to operationalise the cybersecurity framework in Sarawak,” it said.
EPU was replying in a statement to questions posed by ACPLC senior deputy business operation Winston Arif Bong Ting Yan at the recent ‘Sunday Morning with Premier 2.0: Dialogue Session with Young Entrepreneurs on New Economy’ event organised by DayakDaily and Pertubuhan Wartawan Bebas Kuching (Pewarta).
Bong was asking about the Sarawak government’s strategy to curb identity theft and fradulent activities.
Concerning identity control, EPU highlighted the Sarawak government’s initiative to set up a Sarawak digital pass or ‘SarawakPass’ which is inspired by SingPass of Singapore.
“SarawakPass will serve as a trusted digital identity for every Sarawakian. This digital pass aims to provide convenience, secure and efficient online services for both the public and private sectors in Sarawak,” it added. — DayakDaily
