Sabahan jailed 2 years for deceiving friend with job scam

SIBU, Jan 27: A 52-year-old man from Semporna, Sabah was today sentenced to two years and six months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court after he pleaded guilty to a job scam.

Magistrate Syukri Mohktar heard that the accused, Hasirin Ismai had on June 26, 2020 deceived his friend, aged 51, by offering him the post of a general manager in an oil palm estate in West Kalimantan, Indonesia.

The victim, who is an old friend of the accused, subsequently transferred RM8,650 to two account numbers provided by the accused.

The money was for the processing of work permit, registration fee and visa fee.

The victim realized that he had been deceived by the accused when he found out that the company did not exist and the telephone number was not in existence.

He filed a police report which led to the arrest of the accused on Jan 7 this year in Daro. — DayakDaily
