KUCHING, June 25: The Sarawak government had requested 650,000 doses of the single-dose CanSino vaccines from the Federal government for the vaccination of rural folks living deep in the interior of the State.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (Pick) Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin had announced that the first shipment is expected to arrive in Malaysia in July.
“YB Khairy said the (CanSino) vaccines will be arriving in July, not within these two weeks. So, YAB (Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg) has advised us to request for 650,000 doses,” he said during a press conference at Samajaya Industrial Park vaccination centre here today.
Khairy, on June 21, also said that Malaysia had secured 3.5 million doses of the CanSino vaccines, with the distribution of the vaccines to recipients will scheduled to begin by the end of July.
Meanwhile, Uggah said the vaccination rate in Kapit has reached 31.6 per cent of its population as of June 21. — DayakDaily
