MIRI, July 9: The Sarawak government has fulfilled its promise to the residents of Taman Tunku Miri by handing over a mock cheque of RM2 million to build a new church in the community.

According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat presented the cheque to St Barnabas Church chairman Jeffery Jau yesterday (July 8).

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, when visiting the St Barnabas Church on Aug 26, 2020, had given his word to allocate RM2 million for the new construction of the new church building through the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).

Jeffery was especially thankful as the church’s new building is now 60 per cent complete and called the special fund a most timely contribution.

Meanwhile, Ripin also handed a minor rural projects (MRP) cheque for the upgrade of the Bakam Multipurpose Hall following his announcement on April 10 during the launch of the PPR Hall at Sungai Rait, Lambir.

Another MRP cheque worth RM10,000 was presented to the committee members of the Sungai Rait PPR Hall while an inspection was conducted to identify the cause of bird entry in the hall. — DayakDaily
