KUCHING, Dec 1: The Sarawak government has completed 4,120 out of the total of 5,222 Rural Transformation Projects (RTP) approved for the years 2021 and 2022.

Sarawak Deputy Premier-cum-Minister for Finance and New Economy II Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the remaining 1,102 RTP projects are still in various stages of implementation.

“Since 2016, a total of 17,902 RTP projects have been implemented, costing the government a sum of RM2.51 billion,” he said during his ministerial winding-up speech the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex today.

As for Projek Rakyat, he said, 200 out of total 532 approved projects for years 2021 and 2022 were completed while the other 332 are still ongoing.

Meanwhile, under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), Uggah said out of 740 physical projects, 113 projects have been completed as of Aug 31 this year.

“The cumulative expenditure from year 2021 up to Aug 31, 2022 was RM8.53 billion.

“This less than expected expenditure was due to slow progress in the implementation of the projects due to movement restrictions during Covid-19 pandemic,” he explained.

However, Uggah is confident that the resumption of economic activities, reopening of the borders and the various measures implemented by the Sarawak government to address challenges faced by the contractors will help to accelerate the momentum of project implementation. — DayakDaily
