SIBU, Jan 12: The Sarawak government has approved 17 road construction projects totalling RM826 million for the Sibu division under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
According to Bernama, nine projects are funded with the People’s Project (Projek Rakyat) allocation worth RM756,545,540, two projects are funded with alternative financing, and the other six projects are funded with allocations under the 12MP.
“The Public Works Department (JKR) has completed three projects worth RM156 million and another is under construction. Tenders for the remaining 13 projects worth RM570 million will be floated this year,” he said.
He said this yesterday (Jan 11) at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Jalan Teku Pasai Siong-Kemuyang road project.
Uggah, also the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, said that in addition to the Rural Transformation Project (RTP), the Sibu division has 719 projects worth RM159 million.
He said 544 projects have been completed, 31 are still under construction, and 144 are still at the tender preparation stage.
The groundbreaking ceremony was officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
During the ceremony, it was revealed that the new road project, which is nearly 7km in length and worth RM89 million, will have an elevated section of 700 metres—the first of its kind in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
