KUCHING, April 26: Two tenants escaped unharmed from a pre-dawn fire that broke out in their apartment unit at Jalan Tun Hussien Onn, Bintulu, this morning.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received a distress call about the situation at 4.54am and immediately dispatched teams from the Bintulu and Kidurong fire stations to the scene.
Firefighters arrived at 5.10am to find flames consuming a fourth-floor apartment unit of a six-storey residential building. The two occupants were successfully evacuated and are reported to be in safe condition.
Operations Commander Francis Aceh Anak Angai led an ‘offensive’ firefighting strategy, utilising the building’s dry sprinkler system alongside water from the department’s onboard tanks and nearby fire hydrants. The teams also conducted thorough overhaul operations.
To prevent the fire from spreading, firefighters extended their efforts to adjacent units on the upper floor.
The teams successfully brought the fire under control by 5.20am. – DayakDaily
