KUCHING, July 4: The Sarawak government has handed over its 10th consecutive allocation to Chinese independent schools in Sarawak.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg presented the grant worth RM10 million to Sarawak United Association of Chinese School Boards of Management (Sha Dong Zong) chairman Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here yesterday (July 3).
Since 2014, the Sarawak government has allocated about RM72 million to Chinese independent schools in Sarawak.
According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Lau said the grant is important to reduce the financial burden of running the schools‘ daily operation.
He said Chinese independent schools are funded through donations from the local community and the public.
Among those also present were Deputy Premier-cum-Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian and Sarawak Federation of Chinese Associations (SFCA) president Dato Richard Wee. — DayakDaily
