KUCHING, Oct 31: The Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office plans to extend its international network with new branches in Pontianak, Indonesia, and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2026.
According to a TVS news report, the Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the plan is a continuation of the office’s successful expansion into Singapore and Brunei.
“The establishment of these new branches is highly significant in strengthening trade, tourism, and investment ties between Sarawak and its international partners.
“The main purpose of setting up these offices is to help expand our trade network, promote Sarawak’s tourism sector, and attract more foreign investments,” he said.
He said this after officiating at a land title handover ceremony under Section 18 of the State Land Code for the Jalan Pakan/SESCO/Pakan Entabai area at Rumah Jetphre Empali Jagoi yesterday (Oct 30).
Awang Tengah, who is also the Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak emphasised that the office’s presence abroad not only facilitates trade but also serves as a strategic platform to market local products to international markets.
“For example, last week we organised a Mega Fair in Singapore, and products from Sarawak’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) received an overwhelming response.
“Sarawak is now among the leading states in Malaysia’s shipbuilding industry. When I was in Singapore recently, in just one day, the Shipbuilding Association received almost RM2 billion worth of orders from foreign buyers,” he explained.
Awang Tengah is confident that the new branches in Pontianak and Abu Dhabi will boost Sarawak’s trade and investment potential and benefit the people.
“This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to position Sarawak as a premier destination for investment and tourism in the region,” he added. — DayakDaily
