KUCHING, June 17: The Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) has, up to date, distributed close to 500 food packages worth RM50 each to those in need during the pandemic.
Michael Kong, the special assistant to Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen, said for this, all DAP elected representatives donated 20 per cent of their allowances while other members chipped in their own money.
Aiming to prepare another 500 food packages for the people in Kuching, he urged the general public to join in their cause by donating in terms of food items.
He said the food packages they prepared consisted of different dried foods such as rice, biscuits, instant noodles, bee hoon, sugar, canned sardine, canned corn and eggs.
“Those who are interested to donate may drop me a message or alternatively contact any DAP member.
“It is through adversities like this, we see the good in mankind and we hope that many will step up to contribute a bit to those in dire need,” he said in a statement today.
Kong said the smaller-scale food aid drive as compared to the Sarawak government’s Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) food basket distribution was held following several complaints from the people.
He said he was made to understand that many living across Kuching have not received the food baskets for one reason or another.
Thus, DAP’s own food aid drive is to assist these people during the current nationwide Movement Control Order (MCO). — DayakDaily
