KUCHING, Dec 28: Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen challenges Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang to produce written proof of the latter’s request for flood mitigation funding for Sarawak.
In response to Lo’s recent call for Chong to fight for more flood mitigation funding in Parliament, Chong said it would have been more effective for Lo to approach Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) colleagues than a DAP MP like Chong himself.
Despite so, Chong said he has no second thoughts to work together with Lo to help resolve the flood issues that have long affected Kuching in particular and Sarawak in general, provided that Lo provided him with the necessary documents.
“First, I will need the flood mitigation plans that he (Lo) spoke about, if not for the whole Kuching, at least the areas under his jurisdiction.
“Second, the letters, if any, to relevant ministers and deputy ministers of GPS.
“And third, the details of allocations for flood mitigation in Sarawak which the federal government and State government have approved.
“I need to know how much of those funds have been disbursed and what are the stages of projects that have been implemented since 2018,” said Chong at a press conference held at Sarawak DAP headquarters here today.
Chong who is also DAP Sarawak chairman said only with this information he could make an effective debate in the next parliamentary session, scheduled to be held in February next year.
Chong, who is also Padungan assemblyman said on Jan 3, he would personally get in touch with the MPP office as a follow-up on this matter.
“Of course, I will follow up with a letter by today or tomorrow to him (Lo). I will not just make a public call for those documents. Today, I will draft the letter and fax it over to MPP,” he added. — Dayakdaily
