Quit rent for shophouses in Sarawak revised from RM0.22 to RM1.62 per sqm, effective Jan 1

KUCHING, Dec 28: Quit rent for shophouses in Sarawak has been revised from RM0.22 to RM1.62 per square metre.

Land and Survey Department Sarawak today issued a statement to announce the revision of quit rent for various land property in Sarawak, which will be effective starting Jan 1 next year.

The rate change also affect lands involving the following usage:


– for commercial uses other than shophouses, and for the use of ports, mining and minerals, from RM0.20 to RM1.46 per square metre;

– for industrial use, from RM0.09 to RM0.43 per square metre;

– for office use and mixed development, from RM0.05 to RM0.23 per square metre;

– for recreational use, from RM0.03 to RM0.12 per square metre;

– for use in the oil and gas industry at a rate of RM0.54 per square metre;

– for other land uses from RM0.02 to RM0.08 per square metre; and

– for agricultural land with an area of more than 100 acres (40.47 hectares) or commercial farms at a rate of RM30 per hectare, of which RM25 is collected as land tax while the remaining RM5 is collected by the local authority to replace plantation levy.

Note that the revision does not involve agricultural lands with an area of less than 100 acres and residential lands.

Despite the revision, Land and Survey Department Sarawak pointed out that Sarawak’s quit rent remains the lowest in Malaysia.
