SIBU, March 31: A new police station for Lanang needs to be built as the existing one is a senior officer’s residential quarters.

According to Sarawak Commissioner of Police (CP), Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri, it is high time that something is done, and he will try to apply for a new police station and building.

“It is not practical (to continue using the quarters),” he said during a visit to the station yesterday (March 30).

Mohd Azman was confident that the Lanang station, with a staff of 57, could carry out their assignments.

“I urge every police personnel to improve their integrity to set an example for the community. This is important to ensure that a police station is safe for the public to go to should they need help or file a report,” he said.

He also visited Sibu Jaya and Sungai Merah police stations, where he was briefed on their services, issues, and suggestions on how to improve Sibu’s police services as well as facilities to serve the community better.

Following that, the CP attended an Iftar Ramadan ceremony with Sungai Merah police personnel at its headquarters at Jalan Wawasan, where he presented Ramadan aid to 12 mualaf (new converts) of Sibu IPD, two widows, and two single mothers.

He also presented certificates of appreciation to police officers and personnel. — DayakDaily
