KUCHING, Sept 3: Sarawak companies signed 11 Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with their China counterparts in education, digital applications and trade facilities during the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (Mintred) Connects Programme in Beijing, China.
According to a press statement, the signing ceremony held in Beijing on Sept 1 was witnessed by Deputy Sarawak Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is also Minister for Mintred.
The signing of these MOUs paves the way for more collaborations in educational and technical fields as well as services between Malaysia, particularly Sarawak, and China.
Mintred Connects will continue its promotional activities in China through participation in the China International Fair for Trade in Services from Sept 2 to 7, at China National Convention Centre.
Meanwhile, on the same day, Awang Tengah also conducted a meeting with XinWu’an Steel Group Company Limited chairman Wang Wenan to discuss the latest developments concerning its subsidiary Wenan Steel (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd’s steel project in Sarawak.
He was informed that Wenan is proceeding to implement phase 1 of its integrated RM13.8 billion high grade steel project in Samalaju Industrial Park, expected to commence in Q1 2024
Wang gave assurance that Wenan will expedite the implementation of the project after the land preparation works have been completed including prioritise giving work to Sarawakians where possible so that the project can create a win-win situation for all. — DayakDaily
