KUCHING, July 21: Sarawak Association for Peoples’ Aspiration (SAPA) will be gathering at Central Padang, also known as Padang Merdeka, at 8am in conjunction with Sarawak Day tomorrow (July 22).
In a statement, SAPA president, Dominique Ng, extended an invitation to the public to gather at the venue to join them in the celebration.
“After a simple flag raising ceremony and the singing of ‘Fair Land Sarawak’, we shall be going up to join the Bau 722 ceremony, which will start the moment we arrive.
“The police of both districts have been accordingly notified for both events and have given their ‘permits’ with the usual conditions, and would be expected to provide all the necessary police support and assistance for the purpose of traffic control and keeping of the peace,” he said.
At the same time, Ng also noted efforts made to sabotage the Bau 722 event, claiming political interference.
He said in 2022, they had obtained permission from the local council to rent the Bau Civic Centre, which was then cancelled at the last moment.
“But the struggle and onward march for Sarawak’s independence will not be stopped or in any way detracted by such minor setbacks.
“722 is Sarawak’s Independence Day. We would continue to struggle until we achieve our real independence and the restoration of our full sovereignty.” — DayakDaily
