SERIAN, July 7: Two men were brought before the Magistrates’ Court here today to face a murder charge after allegedly killing a friend during a drinking session that turned violent.
Tan Poh Cheng, 30, and Alexson Juli Robinson, 25, did not enter a plea when the charge was read before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.
They are accused of intentionally causing the death of a 24-year-old man during an incident at a workers’ quarters in Kampung Sungai Engkabang at around 5.30pm on June 22.
The charge, framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34 for common intention, carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
The court fixed August 7, 2025, for mention, pending the post-mortem report, which the prosecution said is not yet ready.
According to preliminary information, the accused and the victim, along with several acquaintances, were drinking together at the workers’ quarters during their weekend break when a dispute broke out.
It is believed the argument escalated after one of the accused suspected the victim of having an affair with his wife and owing him money.
The victim was allegedly beaten unconscious by the two men.
The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Chuah Kai Sheng, with investigations led by ASP Musa Dolmat. — DayakDaily
