KUCHING, June 26: A 52-year-old man believed to be the head of Sibu’s largest drug trafficking syndicate was released on police bail today after his seven-day remand period ended.
According to a TVS news report, the decision was made during a proceeding at the Sibu Magistrate’s Court, presided over by Senior Assistant Registrar Jessica Lee Suk Kiun, acting as temporary magistrate.
The release application was submitted by Investigating Officer Inspector Aminur Rizwan Saiful Bahari.
The suspect, who had been in remand since June 20, was not represented by a lawyer.
His 44-year-old wife, who was also arrested, had been released earlier on June 24 following the end of her extended four-day remand.
The couple was detained after a major drug bust carried out by the Sibu District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) on June 12 and 13.
The raids targeted a premise at Pedada Commercial Centre and two houses in Lorong Permai Jaya.
During the operation, police seized various drugs worth over RM532,934.40, including 7,086.7 grams of syabu, 2,078.9 grams of ketamine, and 2,022.6 grams of Erimin 5 pills.
Authorities also confiscated RM5.16 million in cash, four gold bars, two gold necklaces, two Rolex watches, and three luxury vehicles.
Initial investigations revealed that the couple had allegedly been involved in drug trafficking activities in the Sibu area since 2015. — DayakDaily
