Suspected diesel smuggling along Sg Miri

The three Indonesian men arrested following the seizure of RM318,370 worth of diesel oil.

MIRI, Nov 11: Three Indonesian men have been arrested following a seizure of 5,500 litre of diesel worth RM318,370 in Miri.

Sarawak Marine Police Region Five commander ACP Shamsol Kassim said the arrests were made after a team from the Marine Police Region Five stopped a suspicious tugboat along Sungai Miri.

He said a huge amount of diesel was found to be kept in a compartment at the bottom of the vessel.

“The Three Indonesian men on the vessel failed to produce any valid documentation or permit from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) during the inspection,” he said.

The men and the seized merchandise were handed over to KPDNHEP Miri for further action.

The case is being investigate under Section 20(1) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961. — DayakDaily
