KUCHING, Mar 24: The Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Batu Lintang does its bit in combating the Covid-19 pandemic by giving away sanitiser spray machines to 14 schools in the area.

These 14 schools consist of four secondary and 10 primary schools.

The secondary schools are SMK Green Road, SMK Sg Maong, SMK Tabuan Jaya and SMK Batu Lintang while the 10 primary schools are SKJ(C) Chung Hua No 4, SKJ(C) Chung Hua No 6, SK Green Road, SKJ(C) St Paul, SK Catholic English, SK Sg Maong Hilir, SK Combined, SK Batu Lintang, SK Tabuan Jaya and SK Ong Tiang Swee.

SUPP Batu Lintang chief Sih Hua Tong said since schools have to open, effective preventive measures must be carried out to ensure the safety of the students and teachers as well as the administrative staff.

“As schools are struggling to do that while at the same time, have to make sure that education continues amid the pandemic, the best way to cope with the whole situation to me is to constantly sanitiser the classrooms as frequently as possible.

“I believe sanitising the classrooms will prevent the spread of the pandemic. So I have got hold of some units of sanitiser spray machines and gave them to schools which had already resumed lessons,” Sih told DayakDaily.

He said the schools may use these spray machines to sanitise classrooms, staff rooms and administrative offices to minimise infection transmissions.

“Some schools may have double sessions. The schools may sanitise the classrooms in between the two sessions – for example, when the morning session ends, the school may sanitise the classrooms before allowing the afternoon session students to come in.

“Then after the afternoon session is over, the classroom can be sanitised again to prepare for the students who will be using the classroom the next day,” explained Sih.

Together with the spray machines, he also donated sanitising liquid to these schools.

He said all 14 schools had received the disinfectant sprayers except for SMK Batu Lintang and SK Tabuan Jaya.

“We will soon deliver two units of spray machines to SMK Batu Lintang. As for SK Tabuan Jaya, we will wait for the students to resume classes first. Presently, the school is under renovation and the students there are attending classes at SK Sungai Stutong as afternoon session students,” explained Sih. -DayakDaily
