Supplementary Supply (2024) Bill, 2024 passes: Sukma, Para- Sukma take up RM110 mln

KUCHING, May 9: Expected spending of RM110 million to host Sukma Sarawak 2024 and Para Sukma Sarawak 2024 has taken the bulk of expenses in the Supplementary Supply (2024) Bill, 2024 amounting to RM246,073,650.

The Bill was tabled and passed in the Sarawak Legislative Sarawak today.

For Sukma 2024 and Para-Sukma 2024, the total expected expenditure of RM110 million, makes up 45 per cent of the total supplementary budget.

The Bill was tabled by Second Finance Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas (GPS-PBB) and seconded by Dalat assemblywoman Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah (GPS-PBB) who is also Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports expects to spend RM78 million on Sukma 2024 while the Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, and Social Welfare Department expects to spend RM32 million on Para Sukma.

Other expenditures listed are RM42 million for rental of office buildings under the Premier’s Department, RM30 million for i-CATS University College, RM19.2 million for University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), RM9.2 million for Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (Tegas), RM6 million for Facilities Management Services (FMS) for government office complexes and RM6 million for Yayasan Sarawak’s local scholarship programmes.

RM8 million is needed for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Ministry for its Heritage, Arts and Culture facilitation fund while RM7 million is marked for Irrigation and Drainage Department for the maintenance of main drainage systems throughout Sarawak

The Public Health, Housing and Local Government Ministry has filed an additional budget of RM2.6 million for Longhouse Loan Scheme and RM2.8 million for overseas conferences and study visits.

The Ministry of Transport also requires a sum of RM3.6 million for the same purpose of overseas conferences and study visits. — DayakDaily
