Sibu: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) youth had issued a statement of support for Parti Rakyat Sarawak’s (PRS) Youth information chief, Andy Lawrence on the Lubok Antu Parliamentary candidate issue.

The SUPP Youth chief for Bawang Assan, Marcus Yek said that YB Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa has no right to meddle in other party’s affair especially when it comes to the selection of candidates for the upcoming General Election.

“We strongly support the recent statement made by Andy, that the UPP Youth Chief has crossed the line when he called on his constituency to support Datuk William Nyallau Badak to defend his Lubok Antu seat in the coming parliamentary election,” he said.

“Recently, UPP has also announced the candidates for both Sibu and Lanang constituencies and we in SUPP understand that we have no rights to oppose the selection of their candidates.”

“However, we must remember that UPP is not a component party of the state’s Barisan Nasional and the late Adenan Satem’s had directed for all BN direct candidates to resign their respective party in order to hold BN logo in the election.”

“Also, we would like to voice our concern that is we do not want any direct BN candidate for the upcoming general elections and even in the next state elections because it is not fair for PBB, PRS, SUPP and PDP who have been loyal all these years,” Marcus added.

Before joining UPP, Rayong stood as an independent candidate against Toh Heng San of SUPP in the Sarawak State Election in 2001 before contesting under Sarawak Nasional Party (SNAP) ticket to challenge Jonathan Krai, also a SUPP candidate in 2006. – dayakdaily.com
