SUPP trying to distance itself from BN’s failures, says Yii

KUCHING, March 19: A Democratic Action Party (DAP) leader claims that Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) is trying to shy away from the Barisan Nasional (BN) federal government because of BN’s failures and financial scandals that have made global headlines.

Referring to the recent statement by SUPP president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian who reminded Sarawakians not to “look at Peninsular”, Bandar Kuching MP Chong Chieng Jen’s special assistant Dr Kelvin Yii alleged that Dr Sim is indirectly admitting all the failures and scandals plaguing the BN governent.

Dr Yii said such a statement had shown Dr Sim’s ignorance of how policies decided in Putrajaya affects all Malaysians, even here in Sarawak.

Dr Sim made the statement when reading out Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari’s speech at the recent Federation of Kuching Division Community Associations’ Chinese New Year dinner. Yii said it was a deliberate attempt by SUPP to isolate themselves or in a way keep a distance from the alleged scandals and failures that are surrounding the BN government.

“This was the same ‘modus operandi’ that SUPP tried during the previous state elections in 2016 and now they are recycling the same slogan in an attempt to mislead people that what happens there does not concern us.”

However, Dr Yii stressed that whatever was decided in Putrajaya would affect Sarawak which would have to bear the fallout of all the failed policies and bad governance perpetuated by the ruling BN government including the introduction of multiple taxes like GST in order to pay for the wastage and debts incurred.

“The hypocrisy that Dr Sim and SUPP is showing, is that while they try to convince people not to look at what is happening in Peninsular Malaysia due to all the scandals and mismanagement, they themselves are the ones that empower and enable UMNO-BN to be in power for the past 60 years in Malaysia.”

Without the support of BN Sarawak and all the component parties, UMNO-BN would not be in power to implement unfair policies, he said.

“SUPP and all BN Sarawak parties are accomplices to the crime as they chose not just to support a thief, but also keep quiet even when our rights are being taken away.”

He said SUPP’s statement asking people not to look at what happens in the Peninsular is greatly ironic as SUPP’s own candidates are to be decided and approved by UMNO-BN which was confirmed by a recent statement from Abang Johari. — DayakDaily
