KUCHING, June 29: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) will not falter regardless of how severe the thunderstorm is, said party president Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

He made this remark when officiating the SUPP Kuching branch’s 65th anniversary celebration at its branch office in Jalan Sungai Padungan tonight, which experienced a temporary delay due to lighting and thunderstorms.

“Leaders and members come and go, but the party continues to strive forward. SUPP is older than Malaysia, and the Kuching branch is one of the earliest branches, second only to Sibu.

“I am glad to learn that more than 200 young members have joined the Kuching branch,” he said.

Dr Sim, who is also Deputy Premier, however, urged members to remain vigilant against ‘termites’ both external and internal, that seek to divide Sarawak.

“As Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) has mentioned, Sarawak will be in Malaysia. So, there is no need to envy Sarawak’s progress.

“Instead, admire and emulate our development. Like I have always mentioned, when Sarawak thrives, Malaysia does too,” he said.

Dr Sim highlighted Sarawak’s bright future, noting its rich resources, including renewable energy, as well as its port and planned airport developments. He pointed out that Sarawak’s revenue increased from over RM5 billion in 2018 to RM13 billion in 2023, thanks to the diligent efforts of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government.

“Most importantly, Sarawak recorded RM4.7 billion in revenue in the first quarter of this year. Sarawak will continue to prosper, and so will its people.

“Now we are focused on nation-building of Sarawak, which requires talent and unity to realise the net zero agenda and foster a new economy,” he said.

With Sarawak gaining global recognition and more people being attracted to come here, Dr Sim reminded us that the success of Sarawak today is rooted in unity, focus on progress, political stability and strong leadership.

He also called on the SUPP Kuching branch to evolve with the changing times.

The celebration was attended by SUPP Kuching branch chairwoman Datuk Lily Yong and other party members. ā€” DayakDaily
