SUPP should be given deputy minister post in Anwar’s Cabinet to prove unity govt’s sincerity, says SUPP Stakan chief

KUCHING, Dec 8: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) should also be given a deputy minister post in Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s cabinet to represent the urban voice and to fight for the various aspirations of Sarawak.

SUPP Stakan chief Dato Sim Kiang Chiok sees that there is a chance that a Member of Parliament (MP) from SUPP would be picked for the deputy minister post in the spirit of the national unity government.

“SUPP has been most maligned party by the DAP (Democratic Action Party) and although they have apologised publicly to GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) and Sarawakians, they (DAP Sarawak leaders and members) are now selling the story that they have to act nice to get our cooperation (to form the federal government).

“This means that DAP is not sincere in their apology and will say anything to have power. So to prove their sincerity to GPS, they (DAP Sarawak) have to accept that due to their wild accusations and smear campaigns, SUPP may see one MP called up to duty to represent the Sarawak urban voice,” he said in a statement today.

Given this scenario, Sim opined that MPs from SUPP deserved and should be considered for the deputy minister post in Anwar’s cabinet line-up.

He added that this will set the record straight that what GPS has been doing all along was right and all that DAP Sarawak had done against GPS was wrong.

“Moreover, to have more GPS MPs appointed into the federal cabinet will strengthen and amplify Sarawak’s voice at the federal level.

“It will bring much more benefits such as development allocation for our needs and achieve our aspirations to become an advanced and harmonious State,” he added.
