MIRI, April 3: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Pujut Youth publicity and information secretary Kevin Hii has called for direct flights from Sarawak to China as both sides have always enjoyed a good relationship.

He said following Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s four-day visit to China, he had hoped for news of direct flights from Sarawak to China as there are not many flight options from the region to China.

“Currently, the only direct flights to China from Malaysia are from Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu. However, Sarawak has always had a good relationship with China, and there is a Chinese Consulate General in Kuching,” Hii pointed out in a media statement.

Therefore, it is hoped that there will be direct flights from Sarawak to China to increase economic progress and promote cultural exchange.

“China has always been one of the top tourist destinations in the world, and Sarawak has many tourist attractions. Direct flights to China will help Sarawak’s tourism industry grow,” he said.

Hii further added China has many innovative business concepts that young entrepreneurs in Sarawak can learn from.

“Opening direct flights will allow young people to seek business opportunities in China and develop their local businesses. Young people need more business and employment opportunities,” he explained.

Additionally, students will have the chance to study at Chinese universities and learn the latest technologies, then bring what they’ve learned back to Malaysia for development.

Therefore, increasing direct flight routes will undoubtedly bring more opportunities to Sarawak.
