Ex-cop jailed one month, fined RM3,000 for trespassing into Astana Negeri

KUCHING, April 3: A former police officer received a one-month jail sentence and was fined RM3,000 for trespassing into Astana Negeri Sarawak.

Aszaha Abdul Hamid, 47, was found guilty by the Magistrate’s Court here today after Magistrate Syarifah found that the prosecution had proven the case beyond a reasonable doubt.


Aszaha was charged under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminally trespassing into the Astana Negeri Sarawak compound at about 6.50am on August 25, 2021.

Section 447 of the Penal Code carries imprisonment up to six months, or a maximum fine of RM3,000, or with both, upon conviction.

According to the brief facts of the case, it was a police officer who lodged a police report after he found that the accused had followed a van into Astana without valid permission.

Aszaha allegedly followed a van transporting General Operation Force personnel into Astana.

The accused later claimed that he was going to meet someone in Astana.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
