SUPP looking into Stakan branch secretary’s sudden resignation

KUCHING, Oct 2: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) will look into the reason for Stakan branch secretary Sivanesan Sanmugalingam’s sudden resignation from the party.

“First of all, I was surprised that Sivanesan resigned two or three days ago. He still texted me asking for something else,” said SUPP president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

On Sept 30, Sivanesan submitted his resignation letter to Dr Sim, relinquishing his position as Stakan secretary and also quit his 27-year membership from the party.

Sivanesan claimed that his decision was closely related to the party leadership’s lack of concern for the branch which was officially registered in November 2017.

In stating this, he added his resignation marks his retirement from politics and he would not be joining any other political party from then on.

Regarding this, Dr Sim asserted that SUPP would be looking into the matter to identify the reason for a long-serving SUPP member to call it quits.

“We will look into it and try to find out why, since he has been a member of SUPP for a long time. That’s all I have to say,” he said during a press conference on the revelation of TYT’s birthday celebration programme at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.

Meanwhile, Dr Sim also said the SUPP candidates to be contesting in the upcoming Sarawak State Election has yet to be finalised.

“We are constantly looking at the performances of those who are on the ground. I have discussed with Chief Minister a few times and we will need to continue to monitor because we don’t know when is the election,” he said. —DayakDaily
