KUCHING, March 26: The Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Kuching Branch has established a task force to examine the reasons and evidence behind the expulsion of its chairperson Datuk Lily Yong and secretary Voong Nam Jin.

SUPP Kuching Branch assistant secretary and youth chief Nicholas Wung said the task force will be jointly led by acting chairman Jong Yean Pin and himself as acting secretary, with support from several lawyers within the branch.

“We have established a task force to look into the reasons for the dismissal and the evidence that led to the decision,” he said during a press conference at the branch office tonight.

The developments follow the decision by the SUPP Central Working Committee (CWC) to expel Yong and Voong over allegations linked to the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC). Both Yong and Voong were served official notices of their expulsion on March 16.

Wung noted that key documents, including the full grounds of decision and records of disciplinary proceedings, have yet to be made available.

“At the moment, none of us, including the two affected individuals, have seen the full documentation. We understand these were prepared by the disciplinary committee and submitted to the CWC. So it will be interesting to know,” he explained.

He added that the findings of the task force would help the branch determine its next course of action, particularly if an appeal is filed.

Describing the development as “shocking”, Wung also questioned the speed of the disciplinary process, claiming that separate inquiry involving Yong and Voong was completed in less than a day.

“I believe everyone has the right to know the truth,” he said. — DayakDaily
