KUCHING, Dec 8: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has congratulated the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) on its smooth leadership transition, highlighted by an uncontested presidency election, expressing confidence that the party will maintain or even secure more seats in the next Sarawak Election (PRN).
“I would like to thank and congratulate those chosen to lead SUPP. Without any contest, it shows that SUPP is in very calm waters,” said Abang Johari during SUPP’s 26th Triennial Delegate Conference held at Saati Hall, SUPP headquarters here today.
Using a nautical metaphor, he likened the party’s stability to a ship sailing smoothly.
“When you are sailing on calm waters, it’s easy for the captain to steer the ship. This allows him to focus on looking after the passengers.
“If there were many waves, it would be difficult, and the captain might (lose control),” he stressed.
Abang Johari expressed optimism that this unity and stability within SUPP would enable the party to play a stronger role in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), driving the State towards greater development.
In addition, he believed that SUPP’s camaraderie and unity would contribute significantly to Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) overall success in the upcoming elections.
“I think with this strength and comradeship (within SUPP), we will be able to maintain or win more seats in the next elections,” he emphasised.
